My oto has a tan dot on his underside. I had a guppy that had one once and it died. I'm just curious what to do about it. Right now it's in the "hospital". My betta who lives there is chasing it :/ If it continues I'll move the betta to another place temporarily. Anyways here's what the oto looks like --->

Update: The growth is larger today. Since it is right below the mouth I think it is starting to impair his ability to eat. He is still trying though. The betta has been moved to a dual betta hex (boy, is she pissed).

I'm really not sure what to think....it looks like it's developing inside??
Any breaks in the skin? If so, Melafix would help w/ the tissue...and if a bacterial agent happened to be the cause...
My pleco had an affliction in the same area, tho I can't say it looked the same :/...on the other hand, I don't know how it looked before I caught sight of it...

Where did it affect the guppy?...maybe it would help someone to id it...

It is definately under the skin, I looked at it up close and felt it while I had the fish out of the water (only for a second). It's hard, like a little seed. The guppy had it on it's stomach. I was thinking maybe a harmless tumor?

yeah, either a tumor or a fatty deposit. Perhaps so some sort of calcium or other mineral deposit. Thats very odd. I've never had that happen to any of my fish. I DID once have a Compressiceps that got some tumors on her jaw and she stopped eating and died. Very sad.

 eesh.
it would seem to be such a delicate place......i wouldn't think so...

I didn't think so, just thought I'd check. He's still eating ok, so I don't think it's bothering him. I guess it isn't a problem...
