Hi. My Jewel spot was laying on the bottom of the tank this morning, gasping for breath. I turned the temperature up on both heaters ( as it was 25 degrees c ) up to 27 and now he's back to life, I dont understand it. He's swimming around and eating again with the rest of them. I havent got a hospital tank set up yet, and Im going away this evening. I just hope he stays this way

Sounds like it could be a parasite, heavy breathing can be a sign of gill flukes are the gill red and inflamed, or pale, and has the fish been flicking and rubbing on objects.

Well he was a bit pale, and a few of the fish have been skating along the bottom, kinda digging, but I just put it down to ' normal behaviour '. If not what treatment can I get them to give when I get back. Oh Im in the uk too

Not familar with that type of fish, but if they are pale that can be a sign of stress, what are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, just to make sure that ok.

They're all showing 0 and ph is 8.5, I'll do another water change when I get home on Monday. God I hope they'll be ok till then :-(

Just keep a look out for sign of parasites like whitespot, velvet flukes and things, heavy breathing and flicking and rubbing against objects.
