Tank size:180 litres
pH:7.6
ammonia:0
nitrite:0
nitrate:50 (too high I know, about to go do a water change!)
kH:normal (6?)
gH:normal (16)
tank temp:26 degrees celsius
Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):
Our female guppy has developed symptoms over the past two days. She hangs around at the water surface and is not eating (although she did go for some larvae last night). She has no balance problems or swelling. She has always been on the smaller side and for some months now she has not been gravid (not sure if relevent or not!). This morning she is the same but she is "poohing" a white trail. I presume this is a bacterial infection as one of the male guppies died from dropsy a few days ago (we euthanised him) and I have been treating the tank with melafix. Do you think she will survive and should i try and set up a hospital tank?
Volume and Frequency of water changes:
16% approxiamately every week
Chemical Additives or Media in your tank:
King british Safe guard
Melafix
Tank inhabitants:
four guppies (and several babies)
One Rainbow shark
four Clown loaches
3 botia sids (thingies!!!)
2 clown pleckos
one peacock eel
4 corydoras
Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):
the peacock eel was added about a month ago
Exposure to chemicals:
only the water treatments above.
I hope you can help me!
