My gourami had a circular red patch on it towards the tail end of it. It would almost seem like a fish could have sucked on him and taken off his skin there. I put in a little medication for red patches among other things and gave him a little longer than a week, but it seems that the problem is still there. Now it seems that he is getting a bump on the other side of his body where there was no injury or sickness. The red patch is about the size of tack head...a little smaller, but it is seeming that the red patch has sunk in some and bumping out on the other side of his body. It is not centered in the middle of his body, but towards the back and on the bottom side of the fish near the finnage that runs along the bottom of his body. I am not up to date with my fish fins and such.

His other tankmates are only a platy and 3 albino cories. Anyone have any idea what may have happened and what I should do. The temp is right around 78 and the Ph is 7.2 or so and zero nitrite and low nitrate (20) according to my Mardel test strip.

Should I try some salt??? Could the other fish including him handle that....the cories??? Just hoping to getting him feeling better. I have just about any medicine at my disposal as when I started out I bought something for everything. Ick, Velvet, Parasite, gourami disease, red patches, internal/external infection. I have the stuff, but certainly don't want to misuse or oversue, so that is why I have posted this. Please help my seemingly sicker gourami. :(

i have a very sick or injured gourami right now as well. What i can only suggest, since i am very limited in knowledge, is .. can you put him in a hospital tank where he can be all by himself? i noticed all my fish were picking at his wound.. i had to seperate him so he could get better.
as for medicine, i am sorry i don't know. remember, corys CANNOT handle salt.
but the gourami can. best of luck to you.

I had the same problem with one of my platys. It rutned out to be a scrape or
put the injured fish in a hostpital tank if you can and buy an all round antibiotic like Melafix.
After a few days it should clear up :)
