Sick Fish

Hi again. I noticed my male platy flicking alot this evening and am now worried it was some sort of parasite after all. The swollen tetra is still alive but has looked worse today so I don't think he's going to last much longer. If it is parasites what medication would you recommend? Or is it best to wait to see what happens - probably not a good idea to give medication unless it's definately necessary!

Going thin when still eating points towards fish tb, flukes, and internal parasites.
What does it look like when the fish go to the toilet.
Is the anus red and inflamed or enlarged.
Check the gills over to see if there pale with excess mucas on them, or red and inflamed.

I can't see anything wrong externally with the fish - the platies are red so hard to tell if there is any other redness on them! Their pooh looks dark but sometimes whiteish. We have had quite a few problems since we got the fish and it's hard to track down what the cause is. Our first problem was with a tetra which swelled up soon after we got it so it couldn't swim horizontally - thought it was a swimbladder problem and took it back to the LFS. Had another tetra which was very small and pale from when we got it and it gave up a couple of weeks later. Have had another swollen which died and also the one we have now. Then there's the platy which died last week with the whitish stuff on her and got very thin.
Sounds awful when you put it all down like that.

Got something bad in your tank.
Being pale can be a sign of flukes but if there not flicking and rubbing don't think its that.
Lost any fish to bent spines.
Its pointing towards tb to internal parsites.
I think I would get a parasite med.

I've only noticed the one tetra last week and the platy flicking today. The platy looked like it had a bent spine as did the tetras but that could have been due to them being swollen more on one side.
Is there any parasite med you can recommend - there are alot out there and I want to get a good one.

Don't know your location.

Thanks Wilder - you've been a great help. I'll have a look at where I can get that med tomorrow and keep you updated how its going. Thanks.

You will only get that med online so good luck.

The swollen tetra died overnight. :rip: I couldn't see any redness around the anus - the redness was inside his belly. I'm going to order the flubenol today as I don't want any of the others getting to that point.

Need location.
If there signs of flicking and the fish have gone thin, internal parasites to flukes.

Hi again - I treated the tank with Flubenol on Wednesday evening but I noticed a cory flicked yesterday. I'm not sure how long the flubenol takes to work but I shall keep an eye on them over the next few days.

Could be the med making the cory flick.
Good luck.

Yes I did wonder if it could be that. I will keep an eye on them till Wednesday and then give them another dose if it's still happening.
Another tetra has got really swollen again overnight  - I don't know what's wrong with them but it seems to be getting them one by one. It's different to what was wrong with the platy so maybe they were just a bad batch of tetras or something. -_-
I appreciate you keeping on replying to my fish issues Wilder!! :)
