few more tests to need to do other than the PH
*ammonia
*nitrite
*nitrite

best to use an API master test kit
what other fish are in the tank? he could be being nipped by other fish which quite common escpecialy by neons/guppies.

welcome to the forum by the way :)

Thanks for the welcome :)
I only have a ph test kit :( will have to fix that problem soon!
i have one male and three female guppies...
2 gold rams
2 cat fish
4 rummy nose
4 blue tetras
5 harlequins
and 10 or so platty's!

The fighter was only just introduced to the tank about a week ago and he has always been this way!

I really am baffled!!

If you can go to a LFS and get your water tested, that would really help. Make sure they write down the exact results in ppm.
A test-kit is almost as essential as the water in the tank, so please consider purchasing one in the near future.
I had a betta in my community tank that dine fine with that fish combination, but each fish is different. Platties are very outgoing, so they could be hassling him. Are the rams spawning? If so, they could be acting aggressively to all of your fish, not just the fighter.
I hope he makes it!

angel at heart...
the rams aren't spawning.. and thats another issue in its self.. (wish they would spawn, but they ignore each other) All my fish seem happy so i think it might jsut be the fighter.. but i really don't know.. as for the rams... any clue why they won't spawn?

well i think its probably a solitary fish then, and you should place him in a small tank on his own,or return him,i have quite a few of these and the ones that i did keep with other fish have never done as well as the ones i have kept on their own, although there is arguement for and against keeping them alone as they have such indvidual personalities, and some like to be alone and some dont, its all dependent on the fish in Q

get that test asap, they are so important i promise, you will always know what your filter is up to

you could if you liked post this question in the betta section :)

Yep he obviously does not appreciate being kept with all those other fish, in what I believe from your other thread is a 65L tank.

Guppies are a no no with SF's, as are the tetras as they will all have a nip at his fins, and I would say are Rams shouldnt be with him either, they really should be in a bigger tank - 20g recommended for a pair of rams, be thankful they are not spawning or you would find all the other fish hiding in a corner if not stressed to death!

Do you know the sex of your rams? Obviously m/f would be good, also what is the ph of the tank water?
