Sick Dwarf Gourami

I had it in a clear container so I could watch from all angles. It was only in there for a couple minutes. A minute or so to try to eat and just a minute to chill out by itself and see if it would perk up or anything. It never did. It floated to the top to try to get a bite to eat but just slowly sank back down and laid slightly sideways

He's in bad shape and might have a swim bladder problem as well as another internal issue. I don't know if he will live. If you can't get him eating properly in a few days I would probably euthanise him.

You can try live brineshrimp or frozen brineshrimp, bloodworms, daphnia, etc. It might stimulate his appetite but if it doesn't, then I would say he is dying.

Have you got a spare tank you can put him in?
If it is stress related (from being picked on by the other male), keeping them apart so they can't see each other might help. However, it might be an internal issue too and they are hard to treat and usually fatal.

I figured it possibly could be a swim bladder on top of something else. One day the fish would swim through the bubbles (this fish specifically loved going through the bubbles) and the next day it’s fine started turning black and just wouldn’t swim around much and it’s gotten worse from there.

I was thinking I would have to euthanize him. I feel awful but I don’t want him to feel worse. I wish I couldn’t have done better but now I know!

The only other tank I have is a 3.5 gallon and that’s way too small for him. I wish I could pull together another tank for him.

I have some brine shrimp I could try to feed her in a separate container. Or I could do it in the tank but I have other shrimp in my tank so would feeding the brine shrimp to my other shrimp be a problem? that sounds like a weird and unethical question lol

If there are no other creatures in the 3.5 gallon tank, and it has a small filter and heater, I would put the fish in that. Even if it doesn't have a filter, you can replace most of its water each day to keep it clean. Then see how it goes over the next day or two. If there's no improvement, euthanise it.

There’s nothing else in the 3.5. It has a filter, heater, all of it and the water has already cycled through. I just did a 10% water change on the 7th and all the numbers are where they need to be. I’ll put him in there for the next couple days and see how he is.

I seriously appreciate the help. I had absolutely no clue what to do. Thank you so much

Could you please give us update on your Gourami? My Gourami is also going through the same symptoms. Please let me know what worked, if it did.
Thanks

Yes!

Unfortunately the next morning when I woke up my gourami was no where to be found. I assume he has died and my shrimp/snails ate him. I didn’t get a chance to put him in a smaller tank to try to help him to the best of my abilities. My best guess is the dwarf gourami disease. I’ve had a couple friends go through the same thing and none have been successful.

I hate to give you bad news but I wish you the best. Hopefully you can try what’s above and it works out! Please keep me posted!

Just for your and your fish's benefit I would start a new thread with your issue. Just because the symptoms seem similar does not mean that it is the same issue. If you do start a new thread please include tank size and water prams.
