For the last couple of weeks my guppies have been flicking and rubbing themselves on anything in the tank(my black neons and platys also did it a bit),but theres no sign of anything else wrong with them, they are eating fine and cant see any other symptoms. I treated them for white spot a while back and they seemed to stop for a while but then carried on a couple of days later.
I also have a pair of Dwarf Gouramis and they were fine up until a couple of days ago.My female is fine but my male who usually swims around and is very active, is now hiding in the corners with his fins clamped and a slight loss of colour.
i woke up this morning to find him lying almost on his side on the top of my filter and he wouldnt eat anything. He then let himself slide down the back of the filter and didnt bother to try and get back up.
He is now hiding in the plants again and i will post some pictures tonight.

what are your water test results? have you checked them?do you have a qt tank?
is he being bullied by the other gourami as i had a gourami go like this because he was being bullied.just a thought?

Hi, I'm very new to fish keeping, so please take this with a pinch of salt, but I have recently been researching Velvet disease as my fish have been flicking a lot and my female Guppy was very stressed (listless at the top of the tank) following pregnancy. Just a thought but as I say I'm very new to this.

Goodluck.

hi what are the stats
on your tank at the moment

temp

ammonia

nitrite

nitrate

pH

and what size tank is it

With Velvet a good test is if you turn all the lights off and shine a torch in you should be able to see like a gold sprinkling on their bodies.

I believe anyway.

water test are as above. i only have a small qt tank which has only just started cycling. i havent noticed anything between the 2 gouramis, i have only seen the sick one chasing the female once.

My male has now got worse, i came home from school to find him lying on his side on the bottom of the tank against a plant and i thought he was dead, so i moved the plant and he flopped over a bit then swam slowly away to hide in the plats on the bottom.

every time i do a water change i add Nutrafin Water Conditioner Aqua Plus, Nutrafin Cycle and TetraAqua EasyBalance
I have just realised that last time i tested my PH a while back it was 6.8 and now it has risen to about 7 , would this have had an effect on my gourami?

Sadly my gourami died today along with my half black male guppy :/
i am now treating my tank for swimbladder as im pretty sure thats what they had since this morning they both couldnt swim propery and started spinning round in the water

Can I just say that I think that's an internal bacterial infection.

Were they both darkened in colour? Both my Honeys that I had to euthenise both weekend started doing the spinning thing and that's what I think it was.

If I were you I'd get some Waterlife Myxazin (or some similar spelling)and treat your tank with that.

well all my guppies have darkened(but with no sign of anything wrong apart from flicking themselves against stuff) but the two that died today didnt seem to have changed apart from the gourami, i think, got a bit lighter in colour.
And my 2 shrimp dyed about 4 days ago aswell.

So do you suggest i stop treating them for swimbladder and treat them with the stuff you reccommended?
thanks f

I'm gonna stick my neck out and say yes. Swimbladder I think would have been obvious straight away. Gouramis (especially dwawfs) are very likely to get internal bacterial infections so it seems to me that this is the problem (unless it's your ammonia)?

The med I mentioned is considered by a lot of people the best there is. I think it's very strong so prob best to slightly underdose but I do think it may be the best thing for your tank right now. I am currently dosing myself.
