Request Help for very sick Cory.

Tank size: 20 gal
pH: 6.8
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 5ppm (was higher - see below)
kH: ?
gH: ?
tank temp: 76 F

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): Julii cory has been listless for 4 days. Now it is lying on side on bottom, and when it swims it does so in a corkscrew motion.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: I let the Nitrates get too high (20ppm) and did 40% change 3 days ago, 20% yesterday and 20% today. At no time did the ammonia or nitrites get above 0.

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Stress coat, FloraPride fert. Seachem Neutral Regulator

Tank inhabitants: 1 plec, 2 danios, 3 cherry barbs, 2 gobis, 4 neon tetras

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): 2 new plants and the plec were added 2 days before the onset of symptoms.

Exposure to chemicals: no

Thank you!

How long have you had the tank running?
How long have you had the julii?

*Also depending on the type of pleco you have he may get quite large.

Seems like he may have nitrate poisoning. As julii's can be a very sensitive corydora. However 20ppm nitrate is not all that high, but maybe it was a spike, that could have caused it.

i've had experience with cories and have lost some to the same symptoms you have listed. Unfortunatly I have not been able to diagnose what it is. Cories can be very sensitive to their environment but 20 ppm of Nitrate isn't that high. I don't think its nitrate poisening. We aren't supposed to just guess at what to treat them with but personally I would try an antibiotic treament.

Thank you both. Unfortunately, before I could do anything, he died. I will try again, but be more mindful of the nitrates.
