Hi I was wondering if anyone could help my clown loach is behaving a bit odd he seems to occasionally hoover in places just moving his tail but nothing else and seems to fall on to his side he is a good size and is eating but not so long ago he had what looked like white bumps on him so I treated with primafix and melafix this worked so I did a water change. He doesn't have anything physically wrong apart from a faded tail that I can see. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Woah you have some very high nitrates.
What's your water change schedule?
How big is the tank?
How long have you had the tank?
Could we get a picture of the fish in question?
How big is he?
What's the rest of the stock?
Is the tank planted?

I change the water every two weeks but they last had a water change tuesday, the tank is about 50 litres and we've had it for about a year now so is obviously fully cycled. I tried to take a picture but he's too fast and now is in hiding. He lives with 1 other clown loach, 1 panda cory, 3 rasboras and 3 cardinal tetra and there is a rather large plant in the tank.

Ok so your stock is pretty bad no offense. Clown loaches need 6 foot tanks minimum and 75 gallons MINIMUM. also need groups of 6+.
Corys need groups of 6+ and so do your rasboras and cardinals. That could explain shy the loach is less active. The tank is too small and he doesn't feel secure. I recommend what you do is rehome the clowns then up the pandas to 8 the rasboras to 6 and cardinals to 6 or regime either and up one to 10-12. May also be room for a dwarf gourami or something as a center piece :good:

I'd also say rehome the clowns, they really do need a much bigger tank..I'd also rehome the cardinals, & up the rasboras to at least 6/8
I disagree on upping the pandas to 8, a 50 litre tank isn't big enough for that many,
I would up them to 5

Sorry haven't replied I have been particularly busy. I understand about the tank not being big enough although the man in the shop did say they would be ok!! Unfortunately I don't think it is the tank which is upsetting him he seems to of really deteriorated and i'm sure he wont survive much longer :( Now the other loach is attacking him also so sad! I don't think i'm gonna continue with the fish do you know how I go about this?? Should I contact the shop I got the fish from? Thank you for your help!

If hes being picked on and you are 100% certain hes sick, scoop him out and lop off his head with a knife! Then put the head in your mouth and run around the house scaring people whilst waving his tail behind you in one hand and allowing the other hand/arm to make a swimming motion. :good:

...can i go home yet?
