Hi

I hate to say it but I am asking for help for the second time in a week. I currently have three neons in quarantine because another died of what looked like neon tetra disease to my untrained eye. I posted a thread but didn't get any help

I have just come home and my angel is floating on his side, fins waving frantically, and he doesn't seem to be able to get vertical for more than a couple of seconds. There are no marks on his body except a ragged dorsal fin, which wasn't there yesterday. When I went to bed yesterday he was fine, and had dashed to get food as usual.

I have jsut done a water test and ammonia and nitrite are both 0, nitrate about 40 (about usual) and pH 6.4, temperature at 26, a bit higher than usual but it is hot here today. Last water change was 30% on Monday, temperature matched and dechlorinated (Prime) as usual.

Tank is 185 litres.

Can anyone help me or suggest what I can do for him? I only have the other tank the neons are in and that isn't very big.

PLease help!

You've probably not got any help as there is no emergency form filled out. As helpful as the above is, its still not enough. Read the "Please read before posting to Emergency Section" bit at the top and pop back.

Tank size: 185 litres / 43 gllons
pH: 6.4
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 40 ish (hard to tell on API kit)
kH: unknown
gH: unknow
tank temp: 26 (usually 24 but hot day today)

Fish Symptoms: Angel fish floating on side at surface - fins paddling really fast but going nowhere - can't stay vertical for more than a second or two. No external marks, no loss of colour - all symptons arisen in last 24 hours

Volume and Frequency of water changes: 30 % + per week

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: moderately planted, adding flourish excel, potassium and trace in accordance with instructions on bottle. Plants look great.

Tank inhabitants: 6 panda cories, 7 peppered cories, 1 BN plec (2.5 inches), 1 dwarf gourami, 1 honey gourami

Recently removed from tank - four neon tetras, one showing symptons of being unable to swim except in corkscrews, crooked back (that one now died) - others still in quarantine, but looking ok

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): None for a little over four months (the panda cories)

Exposure to chemicals: None of which I am aware

Have I missed anything? Thanks for the reply Mowbz
