Siamese Fighting Fish

Well I have a male betta in my community tank...and he gets on fine with all the fish in there....they do not bother him at all...I have tetra, mollies, golden barbs..cory's to name a few...the only ones he does not seem to like are the 2 orange mollies and the orange platy think he just doesn't like the colour orange....  ....he flares at them all the time and they seem wary of him, but apart from that he seems very happy in there...infact I would go as far to say...he is the boss....first there at feeding time, and does not let anyone get in the way of his grub...he is great and one of my favourite fish that I have....I have named him billy....as in billy no mates....lol....! :D :D

What beauties they are http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/lachesi...erFishMedly.bmp I saw a red one today which I plan to get, but will it harm my goldfish?

not a good idea as first, bettas/siamese fighting fish are tropical and goldfish are coldwater.
goldfish require heavily filtered tanks and fighters prefer still/little wter movement caused by filters.
goldfish produce a lot of waste which will quickly polute the water.

if you really want one, get a small tank 2-5 gallons is ideal and keep a lone male :good:

anybody know how endlers get on with betta's?

i keep mine with 3 cherry shrimp and to be honest lastnight i saw one of them swam after him across the tank, crash into him when he stopped and all my betta did was swim off 2 nother part of the tank

i've heard there is a high chance betta's will eat shrimp but mine gets bullied by them lol

I keep my male betta with swordtails mollies and tetras and they all get along fine but i am moving him to his own tank cause i think he is doing a bit of bullying.

Part of me wishes i had a female cause i think you can keep females in the same tank?

dem0nz, I do not keep my endlrrs with my betta because I want the fry from their breeding and he would be population control plus. As far as keeping adult endlers with a betta they should be fine together. Most bettas are not as aggressive as people would have you believe but they do like small live food.

i really want one of these guys but are they as vicious as they sound? it wouldnt nip me if i was cleaning its tank would it?

:hyper: hi Acula   siamese dont bite you when you clean them out honestly wot you like! They are not as bad as my puffer used to be. you can scoop bettas out of their tanks with a plastic pot thats what I do. I dont like using a net in case it damages them..

I get the impression its all down to the character of the individual, so if you get one make sure you've got somewhere to rehome it if it does start bullying.

I keep a siamese with:

3 guramiese (lol my spelling is bad i know :p)
albino shark
10 tetra
Various corryordoors (lol sp)
Pleckos
catfish
Loaches
Ram
Bearded sickle? (Looks similiar to a ram but is a sickle and has a 'red beard')

And quite a few more but can't remember :)

When i put my baby corries in the siamese went for one but missed, usually he just keeps to himself at the top next to filter as it supports him as he is a lazy blighter :D.
Quite a large tank though so there is a lot of room for him, although when we've introduced new fish he has never seemed agressive, if anything he is intrigued by them :)

I have only ever kept my bettas in community tanks except for my female betta sorority. They get along with lots of other fish with about the same size body. I have read about people having problems mixing them with guppies but have never seen it myself so I reserve judgement on that. The betta is really a sweatheart except when it comes to other bettas. In a community environment, the bad experiences for me have always been when somebody else in the tank was too rough for the betta. Lots of the tetra and barb groups are just too rough and nip fins too much to keep them with a betta.

you cannot keep male and female together unless breeding, in which case they are conditioned before hand and only together for a short time, i also wouldn't recommend keeping them with angelfish

dang that sucks, siamese fighting fish are like all the girls i meet, beautiful but evil lol,

i find the females really dull though, the males are colorful and pretty!

anything they would go well with?

females can be just as pretty most of the time, good tankmates are, cories, ottos, plecos (depending on tank size) ADFs and sometimes shrimp
