Hi ppl!

I really like the look of these fish but are they a good fish to start your aquarium with? if not how many neon tetras can i add?

cheers ppl

...Or are there any small catfish?

They are really solitary fish and should ideally not be kept with any other fish. Especially not two males together as it will result in death of at least one. How large is your tank and what else do you want to keep ? Neons tend to stand a better chance at doing better in "mature" tanks - i.e. tanks that are 6 months and older :)

I started a community with a betta once upon a time and it is very hard to stock around them. Bloozoo is right on, keep one alone and stock your tank seperately. How big is your tank? Maybe you can get some fishy suggestions.

i am looking at getting either the boyu mt 40(35 litres) or boyu mt 50(80 litres) because of space. what do u think to these things any way. i also looked at biorb's or bioube's of either size

It is not the best choice to put a betta in a tank with other tropical fish at all, however, I have seen fish tanks with them in it. You can actually store many females together because the female bettas aren't as aggressive as the males. I hhave had female bettas in my tank for a long time.

I think Neon tetras would make excellent fish. You should atleast get a 5 gallon tank so that you can store atleast 5 fish. They grow about one inch long and enjoy having around 5 other neons to school with. Make sure that you give them around this many schooling "friends" so that they don't get streesed out.

I hope everything goes well with your fish tank. :)

An 80 ltr tank is going to be a lot easier to look after than a 35 ltr, as the environment is more stable. You also get a much wider selection of fish.

The problems with biorbs is that they have a very small surface space; this means that there is not a lot of oxygen, so you are very restricted with what you can keep in it. Doesn't matter so much if you are only getting a betta, but if you want a community, I'd go for a rectangular tank not smaller than 60 ltrs.

I say go for it.

I have a male Betta (Siamese) in my community tank and he loves it. I have about 16 fish and 2 frogs. Never has any issues.

If you have any fish with big fins then avoid it. Guppys are a no no, and Barbs too. Guppy’s will be attacked as the Betta sees them as small male Bettas and will kill them. Barbs will nip the fins of a Betta.

Apart from that just avoid large finned fish and it should be fine... If i can i will post a picture of him in action!

Well the clown is most probably lonely in there, they should be kept in groups of 3+ minimum and will need a MUCH larger tank.

looks wicked and the price isn't bad for what it is. Anyone know any good online sites for parts?

@ombomb, see my post above regarding the larger tank.

adamgaskin, There are not many parts to buy... Filter pads and thats about it. Unless the pump goes down. I might so some research into that. Where do you live? If its anywhere near wiltshire then i can give you the details of where i got it from.
