I have 2 blue dwarf gourami's and I'm interested in adding a Siamese fighter fish. Haven't decided on male or female, leaning more towards female. But as they are from the same labyrinth family I was wondering if they are compatible together.

maybe or maybe not. As they are conspecifics (look a bit like each other) they might see each other as a threat and fight.

Also, I presume you have 2 male dwarf gouramis? This could also become a problem as males are generally not tolerant of each other. If fighting starts then it usually ends in one of them being killed.

Would a female fighter be ok in there, or do they fight to the death aswell

the same applies - conspecifics so may take a dislike to each other.

keep a very close eye on those gourami. First sign of bullying/chasing and you'll want to rehome one of them. They very rarely co-exist in a tank without issues.

+1

Didn't work out well for me. Wouldn't recommend it personally, it's very likely they'll fight constantly.

I tried it once, I will never try it again, the Betta I had with the gourami died from stress within a day, and the gourami, and the Betta both had terrible nips in there fins and were hiding in the corners form the tank :good:

Seems to depend on the individual fish, some have reported success keeping Betta's with conspecifics, but its so rare people just dont risk it.

I would rehome one or the other. If you rehome the Gourami's you'll be fine, if you want to try them, i would rehome a male and replace with a female.

Your dicing with trouble though...

Yeh i agree its a big risk i took that risk and it didnt work out with my vt betta it worked with my ct betta and it is currently working with my females but like suggested so manythings can go wrong not worth it

I put mine together when i didnt know that much and my gours are so laid back for opalines

But don't you have honeys with yours, I thought that with honeys you would have a better chance opposed to dwarf gouramis, that would have a slim chance

Who me ? If so then no never had honies only dwarfs and opalins my fighters are in with both my female dwarf and my 1 male opaline and my 2 female ops
