My midas hybrid, Marie Antoinette, has become extremely timid ever since her move to the new 80 gallon tank. She shys away and hides behind her favourite rock every time someone approaches the tank, but swims around happily when she thinks no one is watching. I think maybe she's afraid I'll move her around again, since she did a lot of 'tank-hopping' when I was switching to the 80 gallon.

She was never like this before... what should I do? I thought about getting some dither fish, but my oscar is probably the best dither fish there is, since he's always out in the open and comes up to me to beg for food when I get near the tank. Is there any way I can coax Marie back to her old outgoing, friendly self?

Haha, yeah... she did have some aggression issues in the smaller tank, but for now she's ok. She's definitely more midas than RD though... too stumpy to be RD :p

anyone understand that last post? -_-

Well Synirr, there has been talk of breeding hasn't there? SO maybe shes protecting eggs(that probably won't hatch),
but if thats not the case, maybe coax her out with some brine shrimp and bloodworms, or add some more large and active fish

I agree with the strange post, just have patience and give it some time.

I can't really add more large fish in the 80 gallon... I think it would be too risky for all involved. Adding something smaller isn't an option either, because anything smaller could fit in my oscar's mouth!

I know she's not guarding eggs because she doesn't attack my hand when I am vaccuuming the sand around her rock... she did lay eggs when she was back in the 29 gallon, and she was VERY agro when protecting them. I'm just not sure what to do... I guess it's not hurting anything and it's better than her being super dominant and agro, but I miss her happy little face swimming up to greet me :p
I guess I'll just wait and hope she sorts things out herself.

yeh, i figured that when i said add some large fish i had made a mistake, so thats why i never recomended any :p

maybe shes just going through a fase?

Could be. Like I said, we kinda played musical tanks when I was setting up the 80, and that probably stressed her out a lot and she's afraid I'm going to move her again whenever I come close
