Shy Cories?

Love the pics - they do look better the more there are... The albinos look smaller than the bronze - is that right or just a trick of the angle? Or are they still growing?

I've taken a couple of pics of mine, but I don't have the right lead to transfer them - have to do it later via my husband's laptop PC. Not sure anyway if you can see the cories - like Debbie's, they seem to sense if they're on show and won't cooperate!

I'll read up on bettas a bit more, but sounds one on his own is the way to go if daughter's still keen. But she'd have to clear some space in her room first  - even for a small tank!

No the albino are slightly smaller than the bronze....but they were very small when I got them....well it took me ages to get a pic...as you say...once I get the camera out they all swim off....buggers!

I love that sand substrate.

Every time I see that I plan to replace all my gravel with sand, ... but I never do.

Well cory_dad...ya should...so much easier to clean...and I love watching my corys digging in it....!

Debbie

I agree, well worth the effort!!I spent 5 hours swapping mine over from gravel to sand last bank holiday Monday, and it looks sooooo much better!!

rhostog- I wouldn't bother adding any Panda cory's until you get the nitrite down to zero, as they are very sensitive to any fluctuations in water quality, and may end up suffering ;)

That's a problem for me, as there's nitrite in my tap water, so I'm adding it every time I do a water change. Thanks Anglian Water.

The pandas are so cute, but I wouldn't want to get them if they're going to be unhappy in there. I'm thinking I'll probably go for albinos - they had some in the shop a couple of weeks ago - just hope they're still there when I'm ready!

You can get the albino to go with the bronze since they are the same kind. Then maybe a couple more of the other kind so it will have friends of its own kind.
I would stay away from the pandas though. You don't have enough room, and the pandas might not do well in your water any way. You don't want to get them... fall in love... just to watch them get sick or die... I have done that. It isn't a good thing.
I don't remember how many of what you have in there right now, but you can get away with a little overstocking if you have live plants and good filtration. Just up the waterchanges a little and things tend to go fine. :good:

We've got 4 zebra danios, 2 bronze cories, 2 leopard cories, and two very small 'black ottos' in a 75 litre tank. The danios are youngsters with some more growing to do, so at the moment we're understocked, but I think we'll still be OK when they're all fully grown. There are lots of plants and the filter seems very good - just the tapwater that's a problem. In fact, the tank water has lower nitrates and nitrites than the tap water...

Sounds like the pandas wouldn't be a good idea, but I'd like to add an albino or two - if they will swim with the bronzes, perhaps one would be OK, as I don't want to risk overstocking. But I'm trying very hard to be patient and not add any more for a while, while the filter is maturing and stabilising - not easy!!! At least I can talk about them while I'm waiting...

Thanks for all the advice - its really useful to hear from people with experience - and hopefully avoid making mistakes. :good:

Nitrite in your tap water?!

I've never heard of there being nitrite in tap water, but i have nitrate...Someone will probably be able to clarify this as i am not sure!

*wonders off to get a sample of tap water and test it for nitrite*
