Shultzi Black Corys

Thought I saw someone on aquarist classified with these but can't find them now and also didnt think they would post..

i went to maidenhead today and they are going to try and order some in for me but they dont hold too much hope..... i would rather have tank bred if poss but ill take anything as long as they are healthy.

Any you will find will be tank-raised as the fish does not exist in the wild. It was line-bred from one dark fish in a spawn of normal-colored C. schultzei. - Frank
oh ok... well every days a school day! they were listed in the lfs book as black aeneus.....

Yes. They were called that for years, but there is no such fish. - Frank
so would the blacks be ok to keep in a tank with either my golds or greens without cross breeding?

"OK" is a relative term. I never feel that mixing Cory species in the same tank is a smart thing to do. I do understand that people have tank-space restraints. My answer to that is to keep fewer species, but only one species per tank.

Since people are going to do what they want to do, regardless of my suggestion - I generally keep my opinion to myself - but - you asked. lol.

Personally, I just don't believe in doing it, but everyone must follow their own path, in our hobby. - Frank

i dont want to upset the tanks by adding more fish as i would like to continue breeding the stripes if possible. so maybe your suggestion is a good one. i do have a spare 2foot 90L tank so i guess a small group would be ok in that for a while... i just need to find some now......

If you'd come down near Newmmarket my LFS has them £16.95 each

Hi mattlee :)

These fish were known as black C. aeneus back before they were officially named C. Schultzei. I believe they were also sold in the UK under the name black C. venezuelanus for a time too. If you see anything like these names being offered, it would be worth your while to check them out. Here's an old thread of mine from back in those olden days. ;)

Now I didn't want to go off topic while this thread was very active but I hope you don't mind my doing it now. I'd like to call your attention to the red eyed swordtails that Coryologist had in his tank with the black corys in his post #4. These are truly spectacular fish. Here's a picture of the two little ones he sent to me. They are still young but are developing very nicely. :D
