I would like to get some Amano shrimps for my planted aquarium but due to the climate of my country and the fluorescent lamps, my aquarium temperature reaches a temperature of 35 degrees celcius. I can't find any chillers anywhere in my country and my tank is sittuated in a cool place. Do Amano shrimps tollerate such high temperatures?

The reason for wanting shrimps is because I don't want to have any fish since they will not be able to withstand the high temperatures. Also the main reason is for the shrimp to eat some of the hair algae my aquarium has.

My questions are:

1. Do Amano shrimps tollerate such high temperatures of 35 degrees celcius?
2. What do you recomend to do so as to cool the aquarium?
3. Do you think big yellow snails will also eat the algae? Can they tollerate the high temperatures?
4. Are there any fish that can be kept in suck high temperature aquariums? (Gapies?)

Thanks...

You might do better posting the shrimp and snail question in the Invertibrates, Amphibians and Aquatic Reptiles forum where the shrimp experts will be hanging out. The other two questions might be best put in tropical chit chat I think.

Good luck with your tank!

hey there looks like we have the same problem regarding tank temps :)

there are really a lot of ways you can do to help cool down your tank
here are the basic things you can do
1) turn off your lights when its roughly noon plus minus an hour
2) point a fan at your tank
3) bottles of ice every 2 hours (managed to keep my tank at a constant 28-29 but i could not find anybody to keep placing the ice bottles into the tank and it blocks the light from my hood )

if you want more DIY ways to cool your tank PM me because im into a DIY cooling project using coils right now :p maybe we could help each other out

-regarding the shrimp
i have shrimps in my tank right now and i dont think they are minding the high temp BUUT they are not amano shrimps. they are local shirmps here in the philippines, they do an excellent job of eating algae IMO

-regarding the fish
dont buy cories if your tank goes up to a temp too high for em, they really die quickly :( i lost all of my cories this summer and they were doing great before the heat wave started

-the snails :p
hmmm it depends on the species of snail i guess :) hope this helps
