I want some shrimp, I think they would be cool to have. Now to start the world of inverts. Do they just eay the left overs? Do they really effect stock? Do any come in red?

Most shrimps prefer cool water, under 25C. Thought many species do ok in warmer water too. There's many red shrimps available. With brighly colored shrimps you have to mastermind your fish stock very carefully if you don't want shrimps to end up to menu. Shrimps make very little biolode so you can easily add shrimps to any tank. But remember that shrimps need clean water and well oxygenated water so they are not good addition to allready overstocked tank. Nitrate level should be kept as low as possible. Most shrimps eat algae but need fish food too. All kinds of pellets and freezed blood worms are worth fighting for.

Here some good sites about shrimps:

Use for example babel fish (altavista) to translate if you can't understand german.

Hi,

I used to have a fresh water shrimp, he was great, did fine in my tank and also did ok in a wee tank with no heater etc while I was treating my normal tank! Thats the problem with shrimps, if you get white spot they need to be removed from the tank first! Thankfully I have not had an outbreak of white spot for a while now and my new wood shrimp seems to be doing fine!
BTW Get yourself a wood shrimp, mine is a really lovely bright red!!! Especially when they have just shed their skin.
He just sits on top of a silk plant that the air bubbles through and filters any passing bits of food, deffinatly not aggressive, just wanders about sometimes, a great addition to my tank!!
hope this helps, if you want any info or piccies? give me a shout!
