One of my ghost shrimp has a green spot rather large below her head. Is this normal? My other shrimp do not have this. The shrimp is eating fine and it is a rather large shrimp. I think shrimp only live 1 to 1.5 yrs. So it may be an age thing. Not sure

10 gal tank
topfin filter 10 80gal/hr
ammonia =0
nitrates=0
ph 7.0
buffering =good
1 tsp of salt in tank
I still have copper safe in the tank. Had ick when I first set my tank up 6 wks ago.
2 platties
1 algea eater
5 glass fish
2 cherry barbs
3 ghost shrimp
1 africian frog
1 rapheal catfish
1 pleco
I have a air pump and a bubble tube

I think that's everything you might need.

sorry Faye. I'm still waiting on my lfs getting me some shrimp in. now blue lobster I could tell you about those. lol
I'll go do some checking but one of the others will know. She aint about to shed her skin is she? just a thought.
Check back l8r.

I have no idea. One shedded its skin a few weeks ago.

I know nothing about shrimp except their good scavengers.

I thought she may be shedding and you were seeing the new exo-skeleton through the old one. I knwo very little myself. Need to wate and find out what my lfs is going to get in. at this rate it'll be next year anyway. I did read up on them a while back but as I haven't been able to put that knowledge into practice it's been filed somewhere in the back of my brain. If you go to the oddballs forum and have a look about you should find a thraed I started there. If memory serves I think pete posted a couple of links, it might have been mac and there might not be links. K. I've not slept since satuirday so I'm off for a nap. could someone wake me up l8r on.
I'll dig out some of the addys I found for you and post them l8r

I'm starting to think this has something to do with breeding. Shrimp now has a small clear circle in abodem. Most likely an egg. :0

Faye :D

Personally i doubt it im afraid :(

However it could be something to do with the copper treatment you put in a while back :what: as i believe that with marines it is advisable to remove shrimp crabs etc before using copper treatments so i see no reason why freshwater shrimp should be any different :what:

I'll try to get some info for you and dont panic as it may just be as you said age or something :what:

And as mentioned above ................ i dont think the circle is an egg as shrimp carry lots of tiny eggs and i mean LOTS lol :D ;)

Thanks Pete,

I not horribly concerned about it. Shrimp is eating fine and moving around. Just curious more than anything. The copper safer did mention that it might not be safe for invertabrates like jelly fish. Thanks for you help.
