is there a good shrimp website out there that is just about shrimps?

im trying to decide which shrimp to go for but am getting a bit tired going back and forth through sites to compare!

also will shrimp live with a betta or with guppys, or are they likely to be eaten?

for a shrimp only tank how big would it need to be and what kind of pump/light/heating do they require? thanks

Planet inverts and UK shrimp are the ones I use most frequently.

www.petshrimp.com is good

Shrimp size tank can be 3 gallons and up, lighting should be designed to encourage plant growth suh as t5's. Plenty of small caves for shrimp to malt in, heating depends on species most like 22-24C. They can be kept with a bettas and guppies but then the tank would need to be larger then 3 gallons.

I have had 2 Amano Shrimps with my betta for about 3 months now and they are fine. They were a good size when I got them and they have moulted without problems. Just make sure, as previous posted suggested, that they have somewhere to hide while they harden up afterwards.

My Betta tank is 34Lts/7.5(UK)/99US) gallons

One other point though....every Betta has a different attitude. Mine had shared his tank with Pigmy Cory for 6 months before the shrimp were introduced. It was an experiment to see if they would help with the black algae (or whatever it was) They certainly made a big difference :good:

*EDIT* not sure if it is your intention but you can't keep Betta (male) and guppies together as they are too similar

Depends on what type of shrimp you want to keep with your betta, on other forums theres accounts of bettas biting dwarf shrimp in half while others can live with them. They will snack on young shrimp though.

Shrimp can live with guppies (I had my shrimp with guppies) but fewer babies will make it to adult hood, after rehoming the guppies I definately notice alot more baby shrimp now.

Word of warning on petshrimp.com, the owner isn't the most welcoming to new comers on the forum, could even be described as hostile. So before posting a question there I would perform numerous searches (he suggests 4 hours of searching before posting a question), or alternatively post on a more friendly site (this one has an invert section incase you didn't know). The articles on petshrimp.com are useful.

I would disagree about needing T5 lights, my shrimp tank has gone a fair few months without any light apart from that which comes in through windows. The only plants that are unquestionably beneficial to shrimp would be mosses such as java or christmas that provide hiding (essential if you have fish in with shrimp)/grazing places for baby shrimp. There is a section on petshrimp.com's articles that says fast growing plants can be detremental to a shrimp tank, however most people keep shrimp in planted tanks.
