Hello,
It sounds terrible but i have bought a number of shrimps and they are all different sizes.
However, there is this huge Shrimp which is meant to be a japonica shrimp. Nevertheless,
it looks very different to the ones already in the tank.

The "shrimp" is double the size of the others, and has like pincers /claws very long ones.

The Behaviour of the shrimp is very aggressive it has attacked one of the tetras which seemed
very odd!

I was wondering what it could be, i have been doing some research and have come up with rather little.
The Shrimp was in a tank with numerous species, in addition there were crayfish and other crabs and
even lobsters. I am concerned that it will attack some of the smaller fish...or plants.

here is a link which i have found to be something very simular

thank you for the very quick reply, it is appreciated. I just could not get over the temperment of this "shrimp" maybe he is a rather big shrimp but surely shouldn't nip at the fish. He is literally double maybe 3 times the size of the other shrimps.
I am just worried that he will have the fish.

thank you again x

he looks like a ghost shrimp but with bigger nippers lol,
this is awful i am so sorry

macrobrachium shrimp species? check this out. does he look like this? hard to tell from your pic:

Hello,

Thank you for your replies, i have managed to find out what he was, i took him back to the petshop and he is apparently a wood shrimp, and he was a threat to the other little fishes, as you stated. Thank you for your advice and knowledge.

Loraxchick was right.

LFS was wrong, it's not a woodshrimp, they are totally different and would have been harmless to your fish.

Prawn and shrimp mean the same thing ;).

Just so not to cunfuse things, its a Macrobrachium sp. shrimp, not a japonica shrimp.
