Shrimp Hatchery For Egg Tumbler

We have 25 watt heaters. I use them in tanks under 10 usg, such as the Betta tanks. There is also an under water heating pad by Hydor, but it has no thermostat. It will raise a couple of gallons a few degrees. I used it on a 3/4 usg bowl and it overheated my little deformy Betta girl, Miss Kinky. I wanted to warm her up more as she was aging and appeared to be having a little trouble. That did it for her, I'm afraid.

You don't think 80 is a little high? Not many Corys can tolerate that heat level. Peppers are better in the low 70's to mid 75 degrees.

Before I tried the Hydor heating pad, I was putting a 25w Stealth heater in the bowl. It worked fine and kept the temp right, but it was a little large and clumsy. I should have stuck with it.

Can you waterproof a heating pad and wrap it around? The problem with that is the fluxuation in temperature isn't a good thing.

None of the eggs ever hatched.
I think I am trying too hard. I just want these fry so bad!
This time I only collected about 8 of the eggs. I just dropped them in the fry tank and added some pimafix. That is what I did with the other kinds, and it worked fine. I left the rest of them in the parents tank. I think I am going to wait a little while before I get really serious about trying to get the eggs to hatch. I will just collect a few and see what happens.

I have always kept the temp in the fry tank at 78-80. I have not had any problems so far. The adult tanks run around 75-78. I usually don't even run heaters. That is just where the temp stays.

The temperature may be part of the problem hatching and raising the fry. When I had the albino tank in the low 70's I had good results with the LFs. But for some unknown reason I rasied the temp ( I think I changed the heater to bigger one), and I have not had hatches since, although I have had some good spawns and collected some eggs. I have some heater adjustments to make, because I changed some heaters around and have to adjust the temps to the tanks. My LF C. aeneus spawn and are as could be expected prolific, but I changed heater in their tank and, although it is set on the lowest setting, the tank is way too warm for happy, happy aeneus.

It really is annoying when heater aren't true.

I don't worry too much about the hatch success, etc. I just learn as I go and let it work out.
