Afternoon guys,
As the bioload from shrimps is very nominal is it worth cycling my 27lt nano tank or would it just be ok to put some biogravel from my established 260lt tank in my 27 lts filter.. as all i will be keeping is shrimp (neocaridina).and then introduce new shrimp.?

Thanks in advance..

You could put some gravel from your bigger tank, into your smaller tank. I’m not sure if it would be in instant cycle though...

Do you have a filter in the 27L and the 260L?

Shrimp have a low bioload but do need feeding, especially in a new tank. They are also very sensitive to water quality. Either do a fishless cycle, this should go really quickly if you have transferred over sufficient bacteria or add masses of plants and wait until they are actively growing. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the reply, yes I have a filter in my 27lt & a filter in my 260lt

Actually gravel does help. Beneficial bacteria doesn’t just grow in the filter. It sticks to everything, including gravel. I use it a lot to jump start a tank. Take a little of your existing filter media and cut it too. Add it to filter. Shrimp are very sensitive to nitrates so get the tank cycled first. The used gravel and media should get it going pretty quickly. :)

I added some biogravel to the 27lt filter from my 260 lt also a squeeze from the sponge in my 260lt

I just put it in a panty hose. A couple of fist loads. Then I place it in the tank. I wouldn’t risk gravel in my actual filter.

I would take some of the filter media from the 260L and move it over to the filter in the 27L. This will definitely help with your cycle, and may even give you an instant cycle.

I would however recommend getting some gravel as well.
