so i have two ghost shrimp that i rescued from walmart and one of them had eggs when i got her so i put her in a seperate little tank with a bubbler thing and kept her alone, she had her babies about 3 days ago but all i have for food is flakes, i took her out and put her in the big tank and i've seen 9 babies at once before, may be more, they are still in the larvae stage where they float but i was wondering if i just crush up the flakes if they could survive off of that? its just them with a few fake plants but i have caught them floating down from the top (where the food is) when i turn on my light in the morning, so maybe they are eating?

If they have a larval stage it normally means they will need brackish or salt water to survive as babies.

well, its the common ghost shrimp and they are surviving so far so i think they only need freshwater

Common is a relative term . Ghost shrimp is a generic name for any clear shrimp quite often cheap as they are used for food for larger predators. You either have atyid shrimp with poor genetic stock of which amanos are the only ones that require brackish conditions or normal and long armed clawed shrimp which are the lovely Palaemonetes sp. and the often vicious Macrobrachium sp.. I know of 2 sp. of Palaemonetes which can breed and survive in total freshwater and 3 sp. of Macrobrachium which are FW completely. Ghost shrimp can also be entirely brackish or marine shrimp as they are feeders they only need to wriggle around for 6-12 hours.
