Shrimp Affected By Fish Dieseases?

I was just wondering if a shrimp can be affected by fish dieseases such as ich and internal bacteria?

Is it safe to move a shrimp from one tank that has Ich to another clean tank with fish in so I can treat the Ich tank?

Ich needs a fish host to carry on its life cycle. If there are only shrimps and inverts in a tank that had ich then within about 4-5 days all the ich will be gone.

I believe Ich can indeed hitchike on shrimp. If Ich can attach to rocks and plants then they can attach to shrimp. You should take the shrimp out and put them into their own tank for about 2 weeks increasing the temp to around 80F. I would not put them into another tank filled with fish.

Ich cannot host on shrimp. It is a fish parasite. It needs a fish to host on to complete the lifecycle. it does not attach to rocks and plants as it does to fish. When ithits rocks and plants it is a cyst full of eggs which hatch into a multitude of new pathogens. If these do not find a fish host within a few days, they die.

I didn't say Ich uses shrimp as hosts. Just because shrimp aren't hosts to Ich doesn't mean they can't carry it. Ich doesn't use rocks and plants as hosts does it? No. Can you introduce Ich into a tank from rocks/plants? Yes.

It can only be introduced if removed from a tank with fish that has an ich infestation and placed in another tank within a day or so and without the object being dried out. Allow me to put it simply:

1 week without fish=no ich. End of.

As far as the life cycle of Ich is concerned, that all depends on the temp of the tank. Lower temps take longer for the life cycle to complete so no 1 week may not be enough. Besides we're not talking about one life cycle as there can be multiple overlapping life cycles. Also where do you get the idea that Creature Seeker will be moving the fish out of the tank for a week? What good is that going to do when the fish are already infected with Ich and will just reintroduce the Ich into the tank you took a week to eradicate?

According to research by Schaperclaus, in water of 68 degrees F no tomites or theronts were found to survive after 55 hours. Some strains can have tormonts survive up to 4 days in lowered temperatures (such as an outdoors pond in winter). In a tropical tank 1 week will be sufficient, as it will give any cysts ample time to reproduce and the free swimming theronts and enought time for the theronts to use up their internal energy supply and die from not finding a host.

It seems you thought hitch hike meant infected. I thought it was clear that by mentioning plants and rocks in the same post that there would be no confusion about what was meant by hitch hike so let me state it again. Ich can hitch hike on plants, rocks, shrimp, snails, etc. etc. Hitch hiking doesn't require infecting the hitch hikee. It should be obvious that a rock cannot be infected eg serve as a host... Heck I'll just quote myself.

You are arguing a fairly moot point. Removing the fish from the tank does nothing to rid the fish of Ich even if it does rid the tank of Ich. At the end of the day you'd still have to treat the fish.
