EDIT: just relized i forgot my pics, i'll get them on in a bit.

Ok, well i have guppies and a pearlscale goldfish.

the pearlscale i got from a locally owned pet store. they have great fish and they actually do stuff right. they are like fish hobbyist heaven.

anyway, the pearlscale, i think, is gravid. so if someone can check the pic and tell me if she is just big or gravid that would be nice.

i would like to show her alot, she is probably my most favorite fish right now. she looks show quality. do you think she could be shown?

not for the guppies, i've got 3 pregnant ones, one wich has been really big forever and i thought was pregnant. so if you can tell me if she is just big or pregnant that would be nice too. until i have babies, this girl is my best guppy. she is a black tuxedo female and the black part of her is pure black, perfect looking. she is also my most healthiest guppy. is she show worthy?

ok, if either, or both of them could be shown (both are pure breed) then how exactly do i show them? i know there is asociations and stuff but how do i sign up for a goldfish and guppy show in indiana and how far would i have to travel for these shows? are they just in your area or are these shows mainly in big cities? i am 14 so i can't drive yet, so it's hard for me to go very far to show fish. my parents think it's crazy enough that people show fish anyway, let alone to drive far for one.

thanks for alll of these tons of questions. i've just had lots of them and they build up so i thought i would just say it all at once. thanks in advance! :good:

A real quality pearlscale goldfish will have a body nearly as round as a ball. See if you can find out if there are any local fish clubs. They would be your best bet for showing your fish without traveling great distances. As for your guppies I see no reason why you could not take them to a show. The main requirements for showing most fish is to not show a fish that is overly mature, which would be a guppy that was over a year and a half old.

are you talking about my guppies? i got them all when they were real young. there color and health has changed TONS since i got them from the pet store. i'll get pics in the next couple hours. (can't atm)

and this pearlscale is a golfball. from what you have said and the looks o fher she could be a good little show fish

A lot of shows only allow you to enter fish you've bred yourself, after all, it's hardly fair if the winner is someone who spent a lot of money getting the best looking one.

hiya, I was talking about the pearlscale, why not check out some of the criteria and see if your fish matches up? I dunno where to find them though, a google search would probably give results

show worthy?

This is an above photo in a container to show her roundness

i can't get good pics of my guppy... T_T

I dont see why you couldnt enter her for local fish shows.
There isnt any reason that I can think of to stop you entering her in a pearlscale category if there is one to enter. For the big shows I would go along and have a look first at the quality being shown and talk to people there showing them as they can tell you what you need to see on a fish for it to be of quality.
Do you have any big yearly fish shows near you?

no, i don't know of any fish shows. i've tried looking on google for some around my area and nothing. does anyone know how i can find a local fish club? should i like call the chamber of commerce?

btw, on a scale of 1-10 what do you think she is?

I couldnt say puddle_inc as ive only ever seen one show worthy pearlscale and she was a lot bigger than yours and looked like she had swallowed a cricket ball. A lot of pet shop pearlies arent up to proper standards and are longer than they are rounded, but yours looks like it could be a good one if she stays round. She doesnt look that old either so maybe in a year or two she may be better to judge.
Ask at your local fish shops and see if they know any. Most major towns/cities have one. I dont know if you are US or UK or anywhere else but if you are UK then the Bristol Aquarist Society can point you in the right direction and may even have pictures of show quality fish on the site.

EDIT
Ive just seen your dollar sign so not uk though the bristol site may help you with standards for the type. I would ask at your local pet store

Ive found the page to judge them on

ok, thanks alot. and is there a way to like keep her round or do i just have to hope? i feed that tank lots of different foods and alot of it, because there is shrimp and tons of snails to help eat everything too.

Its all down to breeding really. With the fish coming from a pet shop then she wont be top grade im sfraid, but just keep going with what you are doing and provide plenty of clean water and you never know.

is there a chance she is gravid? thats like the whole reason i bought er, i thought she had eggs in her, hehe. then i found out they are just fat like that.

so how can i tell if she is gravid? if she is? i've been wanting to breed another type of fish, and i'm getting loads of more room for fish. would just 1 male be able to fertalize often? how long is it until it can fertilize another batch of eggs?

btw, thanks for all the help.

Its hard to tell in that type of breed as they are exagerated to look like that. She seems too young as well to tell so give it a couple of years and if a boy then the fish will have breeding bumps on the gill covers.
