I now have a spare 3 gallon. I am awaiting my betta (see other post!) which is so beautiful and cna't wait to get him next Friday, he has a nice 5gallon all to himself.

I was wondering well, I have to fish stores quite local, one gets the odd betta in and they are sold fairly quickly. The other one gets them in and on one to two occasions have seen their bettas hop into anothers tank and there have been some torn up ones. I was wondering, with the tanks I have so far I have been lucky and got the fish I really want and in good condition. I feel perhaps to use the 3 g as a charity case tank? Probably not syaing it right, but would like to rescue a betta, the store is not particularly terrible, the bettas have each their own tanks with heat and filtration but they are open tops which leads to temptation.

I have a beautifully healthy one coming and would like to give a store bought one a second chance. Am I being silly?

its not silly at all...it means you caught the bug! :hyper: i rescued one, and now i have three...happends to almost every betta owner!
and the 3 is fine to keep a new one in. two of mine are in 3 gal and both tanks have a heater and filter and plants and interesting things for them to look at...so as long as the tank can meet their needs and he can swim around, its fine :good:

thanks loraxchix. I do feel silly as I havent even got the first one yet, just ordered! LOL

I will look into setting up the tank for a rescue betta on payday. I know some stores you should not "help" by buying their stock. But this store generally from what I have seen has good fish, just give extremely bad advice or a blank stare. They are also from what recall only 4 pound each so there is a chance they may not go to a good home. Yeah.... really have caught the bug but will have to limit my tanks for now!

do it man. Save a betta. You'll feel soo good when he is up to health and he'll hjave you to thank every day. Saving a life is a great great thing and makes you feel good everytime you see that person...or fish. I would if i had a spare tank!

it is sort of like getting a pure bred dog vs a rescue dog...they ALL deserve good homes!!!

LOL you guys have won me, get my first this friday and come next payday (in a couple of weeks) who knows?! Doubt I will be strong enough to resist :)

Nobody really is. For the vast majority of us, one betta = serious addiction. That's what happened to me, anyway. I'm up to about sixteen.
