My crayfish has had the same 2 fish in the tank for quite a long while...2 or 3 weeks even.I do feed him every so often, but I am surprised he hasn't taken out a fish in such a long time. They are fearless and will come right up to him, especially if he is eating anything. They practically swim into his claws and he ignores them. His appetite is fine,he always gobbles any food I give him. He's probably also getting a meal of guppy fry now and then too,if the other fish don't beat him to it.I wouldn't mind getting away from using live food and I've noticed the lfs carries carnivore pellets which claim to eliminate the need for live food.Anyone know if that would be enough for him?

Thanks

What kind of fish? If you don't want them you could fast the crayfish for a while  The carnivore pellets should be good, usually better than live (less expensive, more abundant) Try to drop the pellets next to the Crayfish's area, so the the fish don't get them first :)

There is a small goldfish and a rosy...both are meant to be feeder fish.I feed the cray pretty sparingly...or so I thought. But the days roll by and he doesn't nab a fish,so I start to worry and feed him.Maybe I'm making life too easy for him

If the carnivore pellets would be sufficient for him,I'll switch to that. The feeders stay around too long and start to seem like part of the family

Just look at the nutrition facts on the back of the container  If the food has good even levels of what a growing crayfish needs, it will be great for him/her :)

Wow that looked like the lines for a dogfood commercial

What sort of crayfish do you have? Most (if not all) crayfish are scavengers, they will eat nearly anything. Mine has cockles, mussels, frozen peas, dead fish, spinach, not so fond of carrot but will eat it at a push. I think you will find that the cray really doesn't need live food at all, and will live a long and healthy life on a mix of fish, vegetables and molluscs.
