Hi all

I have a female molly that i thought was heavily preggers.
I popped her into a breeding net to give her some peace last night but today i saw that her scales were sticking out like a pinecone.
I now dont think she is preggers but has got dropsy.
Should i put her out of her mysery or can it be treated.
I dont have a spare tank set up at the moment to put her in so shes in a breeder net in my community tank.

Please herlp i dont wanna watch her suffer

when dropsy reaches the pine cone stage its the point of no return. im sorry but you will have to euthanise her. when i need to euthanise a fish i: take the fish out the tank put it on a piece of kitchen paper and just where the head meets the body i run the knife down their. it kills them instantly and is IMO the most humane way. the cloveoil, alcohol and ice method are CRUEL. its not nice to do but if you cant do it maybe a friend with a stronger stomach could do it for you. but do it ASAP to prevent suffering. and treat the tank for dropsy

The ice method not cruel if you do it right.
You get a jug of very cold water and add ice cubes till the water freezing cold, add the fish it takes about 30 seconds.
Leave the fish a while to make sure its passed on.

Simply put, if you're even the slightest bit squeamish, the knife or bludgeon methods will make matters worse. You'll likely flinch and either maim or only cut part way through the fish, rather than kill it instantly.

It works, and it's worth being informed on, but if you're in any doubt, don't try it, do something where it's basically out of your hands. Dropping the fish in ice water is something you can't get wrong unless you miss the bucket, and once it's done, there's no more involvement from you.

Well put coleone.

Sorry Truckasauras123 not having ago some members can do it your way and some can't thats all.

Bless Her R.I.P.
