Bit of a dilemma and not sure what to do -_-

I just went to my lfs to buy some Amano shrimp - expensive little critters @ £2.50 each - especially as I need loads but can only afford to buy 10 of them at the mo.
I also bought a few other bits and bobs and everything should have come to £35 (10 shrimp @ £2.50 ea x 10 = £22.50 right? + other goodies).

Anyway, so he says it's £22.50 all in. I'm a bit confused but hand over my (trusty) credit card. Then thinking "no, surely it can't be right" - and said to him "are you sure that adds up right ?"
So he said, "yes absolutely". 10 shrimp @ £2.50 = £12.50 + other goodies = total of £22.50
He sounds convincing, I'm confused but nothing clicks.

So I paid and walked out (still confused) and start adding things up.
Clearly 10 x £2.50 = £22.50 and not £12.50 (as he thought).
(Edit: I mean £25 of course!)

So next time I go in, do I say "I owe you £12.50 because you added up incorrectly" (even though I asked him to check) ?

I think he will look at you like you are a nutter..

Its not like you didnt try... !!

If I was you I'd go back quick and buy 10 more while he can't add up

Depends. Will you be able to sleep? I'd be over it in record time, but that's just me.

that thought actually crossed my mind - shockingly naughty !

but that of course risked him noticing the mistake and then I'm the one looking like a greedy little b*gger !

but I do feel a bit guilty :*)

I'll just point out that 10 x £2.50 is actually £25.00, not £22.50. :D
Oh crickey -
Doh.gif
of course - I'm just confusing myself here (and looking the idiot too). I MEANT £25.

if it was me i'd think of it this way.

has that shop helped you out of a spot of bother in the past. are you a regular who gets greeted when you walk in the store.

if it happened in my main LFS (the one with my pics etc..) i would tell them, slap them round the head and tell them to be more carefull. once you find a good shop getting on with the staff bears it's rewards tenfold when you have a disaster.

if it's just one of many LFS's you visit and falls into the usual LFS category then tough luck on them and keep quiet.

He apparently entered 5 at 2.50 or 10 at 1.25. Either way he messed up. You may want to call the store and tell the manager what happens if that will make you feel better. Most likely, they won't ask you to pay the difference. Sometimes that causes more problems with their balancing books than the shortage does (actually not a shortage since you paid what he charged you). In the end, it all comes down to what Jules said, will your conscience bother you if you don't at least try to correct their error?

no, it's my one and only good shop and they are really great and always very helpful - so much so that I always stay in there wayyyy too long because they chatter so much and I'm always late back in the office (durning my lunch hour) :S
He even gave me a free shrimp :*)
Perhaps I will tell them next time....... :D

I'm sure i'd be thinking about how much money i'd spent in the store over the years ... and how much I'd still be likely to spend in years to come ... As has been mentioned before, you already tried once. I'd consider it an early christmas pressie :)

i pretty much only frequent a single LFS in my area and always chat with the owner. he regularly gives me discounts and has on more than one occassion insisted that i take my plants for free. when i offered to pay, he refused.

if its the place you buy from all the time and it wasn't a new employee, he may have done it on purpose. i say that you mention it to the employee in question, and if it wasn't a mistake then he probably won't accept your money even offered directly. and then you'll know who to look for when you need someone to ring up your stuff. 8)

in that case as pica_nuttali said, mention it to the person in question.

remember when my centre brace cracked. i bought the tank from wildwoods who were not interested in helping at all. they ordered the wrong brace then said they cant get the new one. that was it, no offer of help or even any offer to call Juwel.

i called my regular LFS and explained the problem, the next evening (after work) one of the guys came to my flat to see the tank and offer ideas. he had no obligation to do so at all seeing as i didn't even buy the tank from them.

thats the kind of service you need to grab hold of with both hands, if that store had done the same to me i'd tell them straight away.

In my opinion it is tantamount to stealing.

You knew you should have been paying more and allowed it to happen (I'm not saying you're a bad person just saying!)

At my own workplace we previously had a guy who had ordered something in specially and been told on the phone at the time of ordering that it would be £35, he entered the shop and was told that it was there and was definitely £35. He then ambled around the shop while it was very busy before asking a workexperience student to serve him, she wasnt meant to be working the counter whatsoever but that is beside the point, she charged him £3.50 when he knew full well how much it was meant to cost and then left the shop in record time knowing what he had done.

While it might be a bit unfortunate if the assistant at the time cant add up right! It's still morally wrong in my opinion to play along with it for person gain.

Then again I am the person who will always question a price if it suddenly becomes lower than I had expected to pay, and once found £200 on the floor of Selfridges and handed it in.
Because I'm just like that. Stealing either deliberately or by "accident" is wrong.

You wouldnt let someone shortchange you so why would you let someone undercharge you?
