Nice philosophy MOW4T!.... If you have a positive contribution, do it, if not, just go on to the next topic... there are plenty of topics where you can contribute POSITIVELY... without provoking a negative reaction..... let's all adopt that approach!

In my humble opinion there has been a lot of very useful advice given in this thread as well as a lot of actual help offered, area permitting. If the advice that has been given were to be followed then I have no doubt that many if not all the fish could be saved and live long happy lives. This is what we all as fishkeepers should be aiming for and we are rewarded with many years of watching these amazing creatures.
Please re-read the parts of this thread that offer that advice, with a clearer head, and act upon them where possible. If you could give your' location then someone in the vicinity might be able to help you even more.

Yep!... Thanks for that... it also being the primary reason for not summarily keeping the topic closed..... Learn to filter between the positive and negative bits... accept the positive, & ignore the negative.

FWFishLover -

we've given you all the advice we can. I'll summarise:

1) Start doing daily 75% water changes on the large tank and do twice daily 75% water changes on the bowl

2) Move the fish out of the bowl and into a large bucket or tub if possible. Make sure the tub is clean and has no washing detergent residue in it.

3) Get the fish store ASAP and give back all fish except for the swordtail

4) Buy a good liquid test kit for ammonia and nitrite

5) Put the swordtail back in the tank

6) Test for ammonia and nitrite

7) If the ammonia and/or nitrite is above 0.25ppm, do a large waterchange

8) Test again 1 hour after each water change. If levels are above 0.25ppm, do another one.

9) Repeat each day until ammonia and nitrite stay at zero for one week without water changes

10) Do 25% water change a week once your tank is cycled (i.e. ammonia and nitrite are at zero constantly)

11) Give the tank a week to settle down

12) Research some more fish you like (more swordtails, mollys, platys and guppies would be OK, as would small catfish such as corydoras and small shoaling fish such as harlequin rasboras and black neon tetras)

13) Go and get a SMALL number of fish you like (so maybe two mollys/sword tails OR 3 platys/guppies OR 5 rasboras/tetras)

14) Repeat testing and water changes until levels are zero again.

15) Once tank is stable again, get more fish.

16) Repeat until you have, for example, 5 swordtails/mollys, 3 platys, 3 guppies, 6 small shoaling fish and 6 bottom feeders (such as corys or otos)

You're done! You now have a great tank with loads of healthy fish! The more plants you put in (get them ASAP), the more balanced your water will be. They really help in new tanks and look great!

As I said before, read this link:

Beginners' Resource Centre

Good luck!

Should never put fish in the same day as your setup, Gotta let the filter mature and build up good bacteria, Petco i think i've heard of that if it's anything like Pets@Home then you'll always get trouble from places like that, Best places are your local fish shops.

Not trying to be an #14### or anything but capital letter at the beginning of every word is pretty annoying to read :p

Also i dont think you should really kill anything.

Just want to point out that not all p@h stores are bad the two near me are excellent and theyve never said to add fish the same day and they give excellent info to.
