hi, i have 3 amano shrimp in my 120l atm but will transfer them to shrimp tank if i get cories (in shrimp tank atm its 6 cherries and 3 amano's) i have 2 small clown plecs and some ottos ---> (but they arent on the bottom!) however i have rounded pea gravel and my lfs said it would cut the bottoms of them up? i thought thats ********, it would more likely dmage the barbels. if it was going to cut their bellies up it would have already sliced the clown plecs up! but can i get corries? dwarf or normal? i know they need to be in at least 6's. is my tank big enuf?

I personally wouldn't worry about having a shoal of four Corys although I think your tank should be fine with six.

All catfish prefer a finer gravel or sand substrate as they tend to hoover around looking for food.

It shouldn't cost more than a tenner to change your substrate to a finer gravel. I bought a 12.5KG bag of natural coloured 3mm gravel for £6.50 ish :good:

looks like a trip to argos!! but how do i do it with fish in the tank?? i take it i cant?

Sand is better for cories, because they root about and gravel tends to ware down their barbuels. So its better for the fish to have sand.

Yes sand is great for corys, they love diving in head first into it.

If you have pea gravel that is rounded , and has no sharp edges, you have no need to change. I have pea gravel in my main tank and all my corys still have there barbles.

And in my my main tank they still get their noses in deep in the pea gravel.

cool, i thought pea gravel would be ok as my plecs 'nose' around in it.

Nick16, Hi mate,

My Peppers have spawned in my main tank with pea gravel, to me this means they are happy.

cheers strontiumDog, now, question is, dwarf corries or the normal bigger versions!

Get the normal ones. A general rule I have is big fish do not go well with small fish, with a few exceptions.

Stick with the pea gravel, it will be fine for cories, if you change to sand with those plecs in there, be prepared for non stop poo showing everywhere it will drive you nuts.

Get 6 cories, I would stick with normal ones as pygmys can be more sensitive, my personal favs are albino's and Pandas, if you go with albinos you can get bronze as well as they will shoal together. Albinos are the maddest little hatters you will come across, get fun.
