Should i do this to get rid of this algae

can I take this wood out of the tank, and what would be the best way to clean it, and then return it to the tank, it's the green algae. Or do I have to leave it as I have ottos, I'm currently dosing with Algexit. But hasn't made much of a difference, it has had two doses, so another two to go.

The fluffy stuff on top looks dead. The white stuff on the side looks like a fungus not algae.

Normally you just take it outside and hose it off. If it comes back you can stick it in hot water for a few seconds to kill it.

I tried the hose and it didn't shift it, I then poured boiling water on it to kill it and have put it back, I was thinking of power washing it, but think that would maybe have been a bit drastic.

If it hasn't come off with the hose, I wouldn't worry about it unless you don't like the look of it. High pressure sprayers can be used. Just make sure it doesn't have any soap residue from previous uses.

Colin. As you can see pouring boiling water on it appears to have revived it. It is now really green again.

Get a small, stiff bristled brush, take it out and give it a scrub. Algae will always survive and return, but you can work on the causes in the meantime. The algae is probably getting nutrition from the wood, so it'll be a process.
Be careful with the algicide. It's a dangerous product to play with. I won't let it near the tanks.

No aquarium can ever be balanced, but you can outlast problems. There are no quick fixes. I have a strange version of black brush that has popped out in a couple of tanks. It's diminishing now, after a few months of it being really annoying. Whatever nutrient it stumbled onto, it has reduced its supply and is now suffering from poor nutrition. That combined with my manual removal is finally paying off. But I knew I was in for weeks if not months.

I could have radically reduced the decor, removed all the wood for good and maybe succeeded more quickly. But I wanted the wood, so I played a long game with it.

Me and my algae - we come to understand each other. When the black clump stuff returns to the depths it came from, some other form will take its place. Hopefully, it'll be an easier one to manage around.

Personally I think it looks good, algae in the right place, unlike the stuff on my Amazon sward, but the snails always get to it in the end.

Thanks for that, I don't really like using algae cleaners, but I have used algexit before and never had a problem, I have dosed it again, you give it 4 goes, so next will be my my third dose, but you have got me a bit worried using it.
