Thinking about adding a pair of honey gouramis to my tank. I understand they are peaceful fish, stay pretty small, and are healthier than their dwarf gourami counterparts, also very pretty. Let me tell you a bit about my tank and its current occupants. Let me know if you think they would be a good addition.

30 gallon planted tank. Ph about 7. 9 neon tetras, 7 julii corys, 2 african dwarf frogs and an assortment of shrimp.

p.s. Are they best kept in male/female pairs? 2 females to one male? Or several females to one male? (Hopefully not the last option as i don't think i have room for more than 2 or 3.

I've got the same question also so I'll put this thread at the top of the list :) maybe we'll get more answers

click my eggs :)

i dont see any problems with adding them to your tank but im usure how mating pairs works. i think your best bet would be 2 Females to one male

Since i didn't get any replies to my post i went ahead and got one male and one female. Well, supposedly they are one male and one female. They look pretty much the same to me! So far they're doing great.

males normally have a longer dorsal fin that comes to a point and depending on the type of gourami there might be slight color differences.

you dont need a specific amount of male and females for honey gouramis they are fine as a mixed group

to breed it's best to put them in a seperate tank - 1 male - once he has developed breeding lines under his eyes and a stripe under his belly (dark blue) usually get a orangy hue to their tail
then 3 or 4 eggy girls - easy to tell as the go very round
