I have a 5 gallon tank with a sponge filter. I was wondering if I should add an air stone. If I add an air stone I would be using the same air pump, meaning less air would go through the sponge filter.
Reason I am thinking of adding an air stone is to have the sponge filter and air stone on opposite sides of the tank.

Although by no means an expert-

I think it would not have profound effect either way. So if you wish to, add the airstone.

Airstones are rarely useful in a tank. If adding it will reduce the flow through your filter, then it probably will be counter productive.

Thanks. I think I will just leave things as they are. I think I will attach an air stone to a battery powered pump for emergencies.
