Short, bushy, slow growing (no not me) foreground plants to 'cover' the view of lower stem plants in the background.

Does anyone have any experience with any good ones? I have CO2 @ 30ppm and 2.5 wpg.

I've seen Pogostemon helferi used by others like George Farmer. Anyone else used it?

Thanks for the help.

Pogostemon helferi is a great candidate. Easy too.

Some Anubias 'petite' tied to small rocks would work.

Another option is Crypt parva - very slow growth.

Hi George! :) Depending on the size of your tank, Lobelia cardinalis may also work. This plant grows very slow in my low-light tanks, and grows moderately slow in higher light systems with CO2 and nutrients. The growth is extremely compact in my systems and is said to be even more compact with higher light levels and care. I like my plants a lot. The leaves are very round, a bright green, and range between 1-2cm in diameter. I was tempted to say Marsilea hirsuta, but if it is a weed that needs constant thinning in my 20g, it'll overun your tank.

EDIT: Whoops! Forgot to mention, there are two forms of L. cardinalis, a small form, which I have, and a larger form. The small form may be difficult to come by.

You might consider java fern "windelov". Relatively low, very compact, and extremely slow growing.

Thanks George,

I really like the look of this - it ticks all the boxes for me.

Where did you get hold of yours? I've tried Greenline and Java but they are sold out or don't stock it?

Thanks - this looks good too but again I can only find the 'red' version. Where did you get yours?

Thanks again

Thanks - I've never grown java fern but it does need to be attached to something doesn't it? I don't really have room to place more wood etc. but thanks for the idea. When I redo my tank next I will definitely be using some java. At the moment I have to trim out my tank every week as I have lots of fast growing stems.

Thanks again

Hi, i agree with george pogostemon helferi is a nice foreground plant not too difficult and a pretty fast grower, i have had it in my set up for some months and it looks really good, i also tried crypt parva in one corner as an experiment to see how it would go, well after a slow start it is really taking off, regards john

Absolutely go with whatever you want. If the wood is the only thing stopping you (which it may not be), you might consider using some slate for attaching, or a low flat piece of mopani. That way its not really part of the scape. :)
