Shocked and led to question

Pecos. Like why are they blacklisted. They can't survive in the wild here anyway. Also
They I'll be eaten very fast. But why.

I assume you mean plecos? They very well can survive. In Asia there are whole ponds overcrowded with plecos.

I'm not in Asia and the water here is to cold in winter for them. If there is water throughout the year for that matter.

This might hold true for your place, but there are places in SA, which are warm enough ;)

The only place I can think of that might be and that there will be water all year is very far north.

Right just to bring this thread to a close. The main reason these fish are blacklisted is because they are carriers of certain diseases. Particularly the Asian imports. It's got very little to do with the fish itself but rather what comes with it.
