i moved the bogwood in my tank last night, and i noticed a cluster of small orange eggs, theses eggs had a bristlenose guarding them ;) i assume they are bristlenose eggs as the male is defending the 'cave' from every other fish, and is fanning the eggs with his fins. I am going on holiday later this morning for 5 days, i hope the eggs are okay when i get back as i hear it can take up to 10 days for them to hatch. I then hope to transfer them to my betta tank and set up a temporary residance for the betta :) does this sound like a good plan? :)

Thanks,

Josh

Hi,

Ideally it would be better to move them before they hatch, which tank are they in as you have 1 plec in 2 of your tanks? with either tank you have lots of fish which would eat the fry.

You can either move them along with their dad or just move the eggs and place an airstone under them to keep them fanned in effect. It is possible to move them once they hatch but they are sensitive to changes in the water so expect to lose a few, also they are fast little buggers so unless you get them before they leave the nest its a nightmare trying to catch them all.

Expect more babies in 4-6 weeks as once dad cleares them out of the nest he will be after the female again, i got about 8 batches in a row then my male dropped dead, i got a new male of the same variety but he's not interested in breeding, i kept 3 babies from their previous offspring but they are only just getting big enough to sex

Good luck

Emma :D

back from holiday and.....BABIES!! :D
i moved all the fry i could see into my breeding net with a load of plants and gave a few crushed flakes. Sorry, my profile hasnt been updated in months and the plecos were together in the main 50gal :)

Great news,
Congratulations. I really would like to breed my female bristlenose sometime soon.
Got any piccies?

well, as we all know, plecos are nasty lil boogers to photograph because they hide most of the time, i will try and get a couple of piccies of the fry tank and some of the fry, but the parents are very hard to get pics of :)
