Where and when is there an Aquarium show?

i don't get how you get the fish in the bags and how to transport them without shocking them
and do they give you aquariums or do you bring yours
This is what I do when I take my goldfish to shows:

1: Go to your LFS and ask for large-sized fish baggies; you know, the ones that you usually buy your fish in. They normally allow you to have them for free, at least Petsmart gives you free ones.

2: If you want you can build a small box with slats just big enough for individual bags of fishies. Make sure the box has a locking lid and that it is made from strong wood coated with water-protectant-sealent. Also, line the inside with non-abrasive padding so that the bags aren't jostled around in route to a show.

3: Depending on hom much money you want to spend, you can buy this box prefabricated to your specifications form an aquatics dealer (not Petsmart or Petco or any store like that). Think of the finished box as a sealed version of a Beta tank split into three equal parts.

I can try and get you some more information about fish-travel boxes if you'd like. :D

Most major showers buy boxes of fish bags. They also "acquire" polystyrene fish boxes, (the kind they are shipped in), from importers/shops. Most showers have their own display tanks, they are often far better quality and show the fish off better, hence they tend to score better. Fish are frequently transported in the show tanks, the lids being taped on with masking tape, and then packed with newspaper between them in the aforementioned fish boxes.

You get better at catching fish with time, especially if your are showing the same fish throughout the season, you get used to how an individual reacts, and be ready for it!

Fish also tend to get used to the show circuit. They tend to deport and colour better later in the season then early. The first shows of any season are frequently filled with washed out stressed fish, come the beginning of autumn, bright healthy looking ones - the same fish.

I'm moving house on Tuesday and am planning to move my goldfish in a large plastic container, half filled with the aquarium water. All my stuff is going in a van expect the fish tank that is going in my car so it will be the last job, then 5 hours on the road, and first job when I arrive.

Is there anything I should do to the tub? It is brand new. The lid is rounded like a treasure chest, so i'm gonna put some air holes in the top and tape around the edges so there should be any spillages.

shouldnt he meant (i hope) :hyper:
That is what I meant, but that wasnt how it turned out!!!

Had to stop 3 times to ring the towels out, had a pool of water in my passenger footwell!!! Everything survived though, and has been happily settled in it's new home for 2 weeks now.

If I move again I think bagging will be the better choice!
