Oh, and still not judging, just a tip - I get this happen too, but that algae on the glass just above the sand line? If you use a clean sponge (one you just for tank use) and wipe along that line, it'll come off pretty easily. Best done right before a water change so you remove more of the stuff as it's floating around in the water column.

Not judging at all! We all have things we're working on in our tanks, you should see the state of my oto tank right now, algae nightmare. Yours doesn't look bad at all, looks like a promising work in progress

Flow looks fine, good aeration without blasting across the tank, but adding some rocks or wood or more dense planting would give some resting areas where the cories could escape the flow, and I might feed them on the left side, away from the filter output

You're a mind reader! I have a bunch of dragon stone and a cool piece of driftwood that will be going on the left side between those big swords. I also want more plants, but alas, have to wait till next week when the dough starts rolling in.

I actually got a sponge when I got these fish, can't wait to get rid of it on Saturday. I know you're not judging, the tank just isn't very close to done and sometimes I'm not happy with how it looks hehe

My 1st thought from the vid was he's struggling against the flow. Cories love swimming in it on occasion, but as you say he looks malnourished, he could be too weak to handle it just yet?

This is my thought. I'm pretty sure petsmart feeds corydoras flakes. Yea, flakes. I can tell my older ones apart from the new ones by stomach size . I'll fatten him up with some shrimp pellets and he will become chonk.

I get it! Only one out of the four tanks in this house is one I'm happy to show off

This one I'm happy to show off, it's where I want it to be for the most part, apart from some plant maintenance! And hood not fitting so doesn't hide the waterline unless I tilt it forward.

But the 12.5 gallon grow out/quarantine tank is built for function rather than aesthetics at the moment

Have added a load of floating plant, more wood and more fake plants since this pic, oh, and a black bin bag for a temporary background just so I can get photos of the fry that are in there now. But you get the idea. Function, not looks for this tank.


My dad's horror tank. I've improved it a bit by adding a load more live plants, but the ugly background colour he painted onto the tank, the ugly strip he stuck along the top to hide the waterline, gravel etc, I can't do anything about since it isn't my tank. Nightmare stocking too. Really, the whole tank and stand just needs replacing. Not a tank I'm thrilled to show off!

And my oto tank looked like this a month ago:

But that long wood piece was new, since developed some horrible fungus stuff that grew back despite scrubbing it with salt, so is now soaking in a salt solution. Black beard and a horrible ugly brown algae have developed, and plants aren't looking great, so not happy to show it off anymore! Tanks change and evolve and go through different periods as plants grow or fail, or algae develops, or other problems (like my problem with my lovely tank needing daily changes for a fortnight meaning I didn't devote as much time to ridding this tank of algae) means they go through seasons where you're happy with it, and sometimes not.
So that oto tank not looking so good now.
Had to remove the fungus wood:

And now this hideous algae I can't even identify has appeared. Tempted to throw that moneywort out, it's a magnet for algae, but never even seen this type before

And I need to change extension cords so the internal filter isn't right at the front, so this tank is a state right now, what a difference a month can make! While my lovely tank went from practically bare to healthy jungle within a month. Constantly evolving!

So no one is judging, I promise! We've all got things we're working on, and parts we're not so thrilled to show off

The first and third one look amazing. Algae is always a pain in the rear to get rid of, but otos like it, right? Second one is fancy for a QT that's for sure .

Otos like specific types of algae, soft green algae, and I hear diatoms, but never had those so no personal experience there - but they don't eat problem algae like black beard, hair, or this stuff. One reason I don't suggest otos as automatic tank cleaners, they don't eat all algae

Ah, I see!

Corys should be able to handle current. I'm blasting two of my tanks with powerheads. I have corys in both (c. pygmaeus and c. habrosus in one; c. schulzeii, c. carlae, and CW045 in the other), and they're fine. They can sit still on the bottom without any trouble. I'd keep an eye on that one, although it doesn't look too bad.
