spent all day yesterday walking the dog down the beach looking for shells and came home with only 5 tiny ones :( All the apple snail shells I have are tiny. Anyone know some shops where I can pick up some good sized shells? That are safe for aquarium use. Thanky :good:

many grocery stores and delis sell escargot shells that may work, also check your local dollar stores or craft stores. as long as there is no polish on them they should be fine. just boil them well first to be safe.
otherwise, check online. there are a few websites that sell shells.

I have an ornament in my bathroom it's loads of nice looking shells wrapped in like some old rope that looks like it come from a ship. But im not sure if it has been polished or not. If I boil them will it make them safe to use?

you will want to check to see if they are polished. most unpolished shells aren't glossy, so those should be safe. I never put anything in that i'm unsure of though.

The escargot shells are definitely safe for your fish. All shells will look polished on the inside, but should be fairly dull on the outside, if they haven't been treated for decorative use.

I live in a seaside town and I went down to the "tacky" shops and found loads of shells for sale. You know of any shops near you like that?

Im pretty sure the shells in my bathroom and not polished they don't look glossy but i'm gunna leave them just to be on the safe side. Mystil I live on the Isle of Wight so all the shops round here are like that :hyper: Il go check some out :good:

Ebay is a pretty good source sometimes. Check this item....... 380467073834

I always check out tourist shops when in countries like Spain and Greece. This year managed to pick up a couple of lovelies for just a couple of Euros
