i have read these should only go in saltwater tanks however i have put a few in mine

should i take them out

no you dont need to take them out as long as they are well washed no harm in adding them to coldwater setups

shells contain mostly calcium carbonate (CaCO3); this eventually breaks down in water releasing calcium (Ca) and carbonate (CO3) into it.
this will adversly effect you pH, kH and gH.
