My LFS has had a Eheim aquastyle, 35ltrs,set up for a couple of months with shellies, multifascialatus, well after looking at this set up every time I went in,last weekend I bought myself one,a few questions for anyone who has kept these little fish, how many could I keep in it,I thought 1 male 2/3 females?,substrate , the LFS has crushed coral but Ive read coral sand would be better? I beleive these fish like a PH of 8/9 our water comes out at 7.8,will the substrate buffer up the PH,any advice setting up would be appreciated

Choosing what sex they are would be difficult so youd start out with a small group so you know you getting a m/f. I agree on the substrate that sand would be better as they can move it around and it yes it will slightly buffer the water though 7.8 is more than fine. Another tip is to have plenty of shells with multis, even stacking them on top of each other. Youll find some escargot shells on ebay. cheers

Cheers Bullit,so if I get say 6 young multis to start then when they are old enough to sex keep one male and the rest female?, coral sand is going to be the substrate ,Iv,e read 2/3 shells per fish, is that about right?

Youll be able to keep all of them as they colonial breeders so 6 will be a good number. 2-3 shells for each fish sounds good, the more the merrier. cheers

IMO go for odd numbers to start with, just me.. I prefer seeing odd numbers of anything, be it fish, plants, for some reason I find it makes things look more natural. Hope to see the setup when its up and running.

its just 6 is the number for pretty much guaranteeing a male and female.

Yep pretty much, if you fancy a laugh though my first Multies I got 6 and they were proper tiny, they all grew into big males LOL , just me bloody luck LOL

Cheers, Sean
