i've heard about feeding shelled peas to fish when they are ill. Does anyone know if fish eat them as part of their diet? At the moment all i feed mine are flakes, i tried tubifex but they dont eat it. It want to vary what they eat.

Peas are usually used when the fish are bloated or have constipation. However, i regularly feed my gouramies peas. :good:

Best to blanche them first and only add a few to start with, mine took 3 or 4 feeds before they started eating them and it's a PITA taking them back out, now they will eat them like any other food.

They are used to help with constipation, but as they say, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure, so give them a varied diet including stuff like peas to prevent constipation happening in the first place;)

Yes you need to cook the peas first ,then just squish em out the shell. My cardinals go crazy for them :hyper:

well, i fed peas to them tonight. They took a couple of nips at them, but as you say Arfie, it will take a short while for them to realise they like them.
