Hi. Well I made a really bad decision today. I temporarily put a male fancy guppy with a nice long tail into a 0.5 gallon temp betta tank. I needed to keep him somewhere and didn't have anything else that was easily accessible to put him in. I was only planning on having him there for a few minutes. I've kept female bettas with female guppies before with no problem (even in a relatively small space for a week once) so I figured he'd be okay in with the female betta this time.
I came back a few minutes later to check on him and the betta had half his fin clamped down in her mouth. I tried shooing her away so I could get him out, but she refused to let go. I'm pretty sure she did some major damage to his spine! He was so helpless
Now when I look at him, he's missing almost half his tail. The last 1/4 inch of his spine before the tail is out of shape, bending down at a 45 degree angle (approximately). I'd take a pic, but my digital cam isn't really working right now.
I really never thought she'd do something like this to him, and I feel bad for putting him in a place where it could happen! I guess I now know how aggressive female bettas can be :'(
