can you keep red-tailed sharks and sliver sharks in the same tank?

ive had 2 ppl say u cant and 2 ppl say u can!

I tried it and failed miserably, my RTBS chased the Bala's constantly and i had to move them. RTBS do not tolerate any other shark's or even anything that resembles a shark.

i have kept other sharks with RTBS (check sig) but not Bala sharks. Ive had no real problems with them being to aggresive as they seem to have a pecking order. The RTBS was also the first one in the tank for some time so the territory was his, and when adding the other sharks there was no problem, they just seem to fall into line. Just my experience i'm not an expert.....

I have a Ruby shark (similar temperament to RTBS) in with my 4 Bala sharks. They are fine. The ruby chases the balas away from his house but every now and then the largest bala will put him back in his place (as he's now growing larger). It's never much and normally just a little sprint accross the tank which the bala sharks always win at a cruising pace.

I am not to sure but I believe that sharks can get quite teratorrial, (did I spell that right). There might be some probs with that.

As long as you have space for the RTBS and the other sharks it should be fine like what Joeyt66 have.....I'd say if you have 30 gallons or bigger then the RTBS should be chasing your ballas all day...but then again your going to need a bigger tank if your keeping the bala's....

I know it's early days yet but I have a silver shark and rtbs in same tank. Never seen the rtbs bother the silver shark my rtbs is hardly ever seen too busy holding its terrirory under some drift wood.

I go with no.
But if you have a friend that wants some and will take yours if it doesn't work or your lfs will take them back if there are problems. I might risk it every fish is dif.

i wouldnt suggest putting two of any kind of sharks together in the same type they will get terratorial and very aggressive 1 shark is enough. they can be like plecs on the terratorial side you need alot of good hiding places for them to make there homes.

I would have to say, it all depends on the size of your tank, if your talk a big tank, and i am meaning a 7/8 ft, then there is a possibility, since there will be retreats for sharks, however any smaller and you are playing with fishy death, RTB do not even like their own kind, they would treat others the same way as well, i have had RTB even chase my swordies, just because of their torpedo shape body, I aint saying its impossible, because every fish is different, but its whether you would take the risk and hope you gt well behaved fish, or strike i unlucky and end up with depressing results...

My opinion is not to risk it, keep only one type of shark in your tank, if you want a RTB, just keep the one, if you want a Bala shark, have a couple (Though i have managed to get one bala shark to survive and thrive on its own), but when it come down to it, thats how they are in nature, and so hating each other just is within them...
