I have a 24x12x12 Rio tank with a current population of 10 Neon Tetra's, 2 Guppies (1 male, 1 female) and 2 Mollies (1 Black and 1 Dalmation).

I remember my Aunt had a Red Tailed Black Shark in her tank (think that's what it's called  ) Would I be able to have one of these in my tank or would it not be an advisable choice??

Any help would be much appreciated.

Your tank works out to about 15 US gallons and IMO is to small to house a red tail shark.

IMO you have also reached your tanks holding capacity for fish. While I have my own opinions on RTBS, I would not advise putting one in anything smaller than a 30x12x12.

Thanks for that mate

I might give it a couple of weeks and then think about getting one.

I'm sure that my Aunt didn't have any problems with her shark and it was in a tank with Neon's, Tiger Barbs and a few others.

If my memory serves me right it wasn't until they added a rather large Angel fish that the cannibalism started.

I just think they are really impressive and needed a bit more info before going ahead. Don't want to run before I walk.

Thanks again mate.

At least a 90cm, or 3 ft, aquarium should house a red-tailed black.
