this a rough guide to the the freshwater sharks that you are most likely to find in your local dealers tanks.



1.red tailed black shark
size:15cms
minimum tank size: 120cms
temperature:24-27celsius
ph:6-8
rairity:common
aditional info:the red tailed black shark can be very agressive towards conspesifics and other similarly shaped and patternd fish make sure there are no fish like it in its aquarium.


2.ruby shark
size:15cms
minimum tank size:120cms
temparature:24-27celcius
ph:6-8
rarity: common
additional info: very similar to the rtbs in many ways except for every fin is a red couler and they r a greyish couler instead of black.

3. harlequin shark
size: 15 cms
minimum tank size:120cms
temparature:22-27 degres celsius
ph:6-7.5
rarity uncommon
additional info: the harliquin shark is more garra like than the asian sharks and would be a different addtion to a african tank

4.black shark
size:90cms
tank size:360cms
temparature:24-27 degres celcius
ph:6.5-7.5
additional info:this a very large spesies so defo 1 to avoid :nod:

5.silver shark:
size:35cms
tank size:180cms
temperature:22-28 e'degres celsius
ph:6-8
additoinal info:these are large shoaling fish and can move quickly if spooked they do best in a furnished tank with non agressive tankmates.

shark catfish
size:35cms
tank size:240cms
teparature:22-26 degree's celsius
ph:7.5-8.5
aditional info:these fish are brackish so they prefer slightly saline conditions about 1/4 of average marine conditions.

anyone thinking of keeping any of the sharks listed or other should suplement any advice given with their own research. :good:

Red tailed black shark (Epalzeorhynchos bicolor)
Size:15cms
Minimum tank size: 120cm
Temperature:24-27c
PH:6-8
Availability:Readily available in the majority of local fish shops
Additional info:The red tailed black shark can be very agressive towards conspesifics and other similarly shaped fish.Make sure there are no similar fish in its aquarium.

Ruby shark(Epalzeorhynchos frenatum)
Size:15cm
Minimum tank size:120cm
Temparature:24-27C
PH:6-8
Availability: Common in local fish shops.
Additional info: A close relation of the Red tailed black shark (RTBS) and tend to be a bit calmer in nature. Generally wont attack similar fish.

Harlequin shark (Labeo cyclorhynchus)
Size: 16cm
Minimum tank size:120cm
Temparature:22-27C
PH:6-7.5
Availability: Not as common as the above to 'sharks' but still quite easy to get hold of.
Additional info:The harliquin shark is more garra like than the asian sharks and would be a good addtion to an African tank.

Black shark (Labeo chrysophekadion)
Size:60cm
tank size:300 Gallon+
Temparature:24-27C
PH:6.5-7.5
Additional info:A very large species suitable only to VERY large aquariums, Can be aggressive to similar fish or fish smaller then it. Extremley fast growing species in the right conditions.

Silver shark(Balantiocheilos melanopterus)
Size:35cm
Tank size:200G+
Temperature:22-28C
PH:6-8
Additoinal info:Commonly sold as tiny cute "sharks" which outgrow most 'normal' tanks within the year. In the wild they shoal for security and reaching such a large size it is almost impossible to keep them in a shoal in a private aquarium :crazy:

Shark catfish (Arius Seemani)
Size:Usually up to 40CM but 60CM is to be expected in the right conditions
Tank size:200G+
Temperature:22-26C
PH:7.5-8.5
Additional info:Brackish species which require salinity of s.g 1.015 and above

I'm sure copying data and taking copyrighted images from other websites is not the cleverest thing to do,

Well i just replied to the first post with more accurate information and some pictures, i don't use PFK mags so i'm not aware
