i just moved two of my bettas into divided 5 gallon tank....they cant seem to stop flaring at each other! its only been a few days, will they get used to seeing each other? i staggered two plants on the divider hoping they wouldnt see each other as easily, but thats not working. suggestions please!

One thing i've heard of people doing is to add a background sheet on the divider, and poke holes in it so water can get through. Also, make sure there is no room for anyone to go up and over the divider. I had a divided tank and i was amazed at how little room was needed for a fish to go over the wall.

Just a warning, if you made the DIY dividers, for some reason, mine ended up being really week and I ended up breaking all of them during cleaning. So basically make sure you have an extra home if the need arises.

Maybe you could cover it with aluminum foil and poke holes in it?
Be careful with this. First of all the fish will see their reflection on the aluminum.

I'm not sure this, but wouldn't foil be bad to have in the tank? I know alot of dechlorinators say they detoxify heavy metals, so would adding aluminum be counter productive? *please note this is a question, not an opinion*

Buy a sheet of size 10 plastic canvas. It's plastic mesh, but the holes in it are so small the fish can barely see one-another through it :)
Another option would be to get a bunch of plants to put around the divider and block their view

I have had 2 males in a divided tank, its a really old divider sort of plastic mesh, but I stopped using it. The bettas seemed to sense each other and I spent most of my time checking to see if they had got to each other. Still got one in a divided small tank but the betta has the heater and a nice real plant and there are 3 harlequin mollies that no one wanted on the other side with the airator. One of the mollies sometimes gets in with the betta and they are ok but the betta gets stressed out with all 3 in with him. He is too beautiful to get stressed, he is such a beautiful blue with red tinges.

Yes they will get used to each other. I use plastic canvas in my 2.5g and the bettas flared at each other for a day or two then they did it less and less and now they don't even do it at all.

wouldn't the bettas see thier reflections in the backround sheets? I suppose you could get the non glossy kind but is that kind water proof?
